Description: Family Style... Indian Head is a family style campground located outside of Bloomsburg, on the banks of the Susquehanna River, at the Southern edge of Northeastern Pennsylvania in Columbia County. We are about mid-way between Harrisburg and Wilkes-Barre/ Scranton, and about 3 miles from Interstate-80, Exit #232. Early Roots... Indian Head was once part of a 210 acre plot of ground, the ownership of which can be traced back to the latter part of the 1700's. Portions of the land were sold to later become the town of Rupert. The land along the river bank was once a prosperous vegetable farm, with corn still being grown on a portion of it today. Native American Heritage... The history of the land is inexorably linked to the Native Americans that once lived here over a period of many centuries. Indian Head Campground gets its unique name from a well known local landmark, a natural rock formation along Route #42 that bears an uncanny resemblance to one of the original inhabitants of this land. There are many reminders of the Native Americans that are occasionally found at the campground, as a testament to their heritage and their skill in utilizing the gifts of nature to survive a sometimes harsh environment.
