Description: From Hwy 74 take Ela Exit #69 (Hyatt Creek Road). Go North on Hyatt Creek Road. Make quick left onto Walker Woody Road. Go to stop sign and turn left onto Governor's Island Road. Follow this road toward Bryson City. Turn left onto Shepherd's Creek Road (just before the Exxon). Go 1/2 mile under by-pass and then turn right onto Kirkland Creek Road. Go 2 more miles following the signs to the campground. The road turns gravel about 1/2 mile before the campground, which is on the left. Open: April 1 - October 31. Accommodations: fully furnished log cabins with kitchens and bathrooms, 17 full hookup campsites and 19 popup and tent sites including creek-side sites, group camping area. Military Discount provided. Kirkland Creek is a family campground nestled in the pines in a secluded mountain setting. Amenities include large swimming pool, a stocked trout pond (rods and tackle provided, no license required), clean restrooms with hot showers, playground, horseshoe pits, game room, laundry room, picnic tables and fire rings at every site, store (ice, wood and more). Close to whitewater rafting, tubing, Great Smoky Mountain Railway, Great Smoky Mountain National Park, Cherokee, gem mining, and many other tourist attractions. |
