Description: After years of searching, and with a deep conviction that a cave was there on Pruitt's Knob, Cleon Turner entered what became Crystal Onyx Cave on June 23, 1960. Turner's persistent search to find an entrance succeeded even though attempts had been made since the early 1930's. In June of 1960, Turner and a friend found a promising spot on the side of the Knob and, after several days of digging with shovels, Turner dynamited an entrance. He found beautiful formations, cave bacon, rimstone, stalactites and stalagmites. Soon after that, Crystal Onyx Cave, acknowledged by "cavers" as one of the most beautiful in the cave country, was opened for tours.Located on the side of Pruitt's Knob is Crystal Onyx Cave Campground, a wooded camping area that is 300 ft. above the valley and Cave City. Our sites are so well shaded that you practically have to look for sunny spots if you want to get a tan! Whether you're sporting a tent or a full size recreational vehicle, we have a place for you and all the amenities you want - or don't want. Serenity is sitting on a high spot and watching the world go by below you. We offer serenity from the overlook in the Campground, looking over the farmlands and the small town of Cave City.
