| Short Summary |
A wonderful campground in search of a friendly staff |
Comments: The atmosphere of this camp has gone from a fairly friendly one to a decidedly unfriendly one. After many years of camping there and focusing on the beautiful sites and the lake, we’ve decided it’s just not worth the trouble to ignore the abusive attitude of the owner and staff any longer. There are a few wonderful staffers still working there – notably at the beach store and one friendly guy on the maintenance crew, but they must be awfully lonely. The majority of them act like anger management class dropouts. They prowl around on golf carts, scowling and unfriendly. Their focus is rule enforcement instead of providing a happy atmosphere for their campers. They are so grumpy, you would think they were working in a coal mine instead of working at a resort and being surrounded by happy vacationers and laughing children. Sadly, the owner isn’t much better, and he obviously sets the tone.
My 9 month pregnant sister in law and her husband innocently drove through the open front gate just after 10 PM and onto our campsite with a day pass that was only good till 10 PM. They were unaware of the rules or the cut off time, and we had no way of knowing that they would be able to drive right in thanks to the gate being left open. Within minutes, the scowling guard emerged from the dark and quite rudely told them to leave immediately. Without any professional courtesy, he abruptly stomped away. It’s ironic that later that night, the two sites on either side of us had loud campfire gatherings that went on well past 1 AM. The scowling guard was no where in sight to quiet these people down. He undoubtedly instead had the front gate staked out looking for cars with expired day passes. These people are obsessed with enforcing petty rules while letting more obvious problems go unchecked.
I’ve talked to many fellow campers there and pretty much everyone shares the same feelings about this. Some just laugh about it, but eventually I’m sure they’ll get tired of dealing with it and make the same decision that we did. We’ll gladly return to this once wonderful campground when it is run by positive and pleasant people. But for now, we'll be camping elsewhere.
