Short Summary
state park near beach
Comments:
Beautiful, well-groomed, park-like campground behind back dune along Lake Michigan. Very popular park, as it's only 1 hr from Milwaukee and 3 from Chicago, so reservations are needed, especially for electric-hookup sites (can make them 11 mos in advance through ReserveAmerica). Sites are spacious, with some wooded and some open. About 1/3 have electricity (20/30 amp); no water or sewer hookups in CG. Many are level and can accommodate semi-large rigs, but turns on CG road and into some sites are tight. CG is walkable to the beach. Firewood for sale by entrance station (campfires allowed in fire rings). Bathrooms are ok - not great, but have showers and flush toilets, supplemented by pit toilets in some areas. Dump station available in CG. Coin-op laundry available in CG - unusual for a state park, even in Wisconsin.
