Comments:
Mixed feelings 'bout the place. Attractive; but unfriendly.
PRO: The campgrounds are neat, well maintained, and attractive. Hosts do have numerous "direction" sheets for
campers to help find one's way 'round the region.
CON: A long way from regional sites and/or services. Plan on lengthy roadtrips to Lancaster sites from the campgrounds.
We are handicapped (grandparents travelling with daughter and two teens); have our own scooters, with lights. These were not allowed on the grounds; forced instead to rent theirs. Their carts: [1] no lights for moving about in the dark (had to use handheld lantern to safely travel the grounds); [2] safety msg posted on cart said "use seatbelts" ... no seat
belts were provided.
WEB site says they would be in full seasonal operation during our stay ... not at all true. Not all facilities at campgrounds were in operation during our tenure. Cafe was closed all week; had to make special requests that gameroom be powered up; and ATM WAS NOT operational for 5 days (TRIP PLAN NOTE: they DO NOT accept checks for tender ... only check/credit cards). The single evening there was "music and dancing," found the setup not to be conducive to social activity as stated in their brochures -- just sit 'n listen.
We arrived with the need of assistance with our travel RV's water system. Their advertised "on-site" repair specialist was no where to be found; nor did anyone followup to check on our request for help. Went entire stay without water service to the trailer's system; yet paid for a fully functional "VIP" site.
In the gameroom, one of the electronic games was broken. When my granddaughter went to the reception desk to hopefully get back her quarters, she was told, by the irritated attendant "and don't play with that one again!" Based on that and other observations during our stay, feel the hosts are not youth guest friendly.
No pool aerobics on the days posted happened, though we waited at the pool for it to start.
One day, while relaxing with the younger set by the pool, a [Jordanian born] worker painting the pool loudly asked
"in which year was Kennedy killed?" He repeated the same question three times, receiving no response from anyone within earshot, my family or his co-workers. I asked him, "Why?" He just turned to look at me; but did not
respond. He repeated thw question. I said, "in 1962." A coworker asked him why he wanted to know. His response
was "I find it VERY interesting." [NOTE: This is NOT INTERESTING to those who were "there." Nor is such a topic conducive to a relaxing vacation scene. I well remember that, prior to 9/11, much happened (odd behavior) "where the
[proverbial] rubber meets the road" that was noticed during the terrorists' days preparing for that attack, but sadly were ignored, and could not help but wonder why this individual was in the States, amongst us.]
IN SUMMARY: Personally, my husband and I came away with a very bad taste in our mouths. But the younger set in our group made the best of things, independent of our hosts unfriendly mood. And, because it is neat/clean, would just recommend for families much "deeper" in the camping season dates ... not early or late dates of the season, as they are not fully
active then.
