| Short Summary |
It's a hobo jungle! |
Comments: River's Edge is clean and well organized, with the tent campers a good distance from the RVs. And sure, it has a great view of the Yough.
But what they don't tell you in the brochure is that directly across the river, just 50 yards away, is one of the busiest sets of two-way rail lines in the western world. A train thunders through once every 20 minutes or so... All day and ALL NIGHT. A decent sleep in a tent is damn near impossible, no matter how drunk you get. If there was a "Hobo Fantasy Camp", they could stage it here. I think I saw Tom Joad as I drove in.
To the incessant noise, add an aggressive "security" man (it says so on his cheaply made hat) who admonishes you for post-11 PM conversations. Not for partying, just for talking, which is a sick joke because the clown has to yell over the trains when he tells you to pipe down.
If you insist on visiting this mortar range, borrow a set of ear protectors from one of those guys at the airport, and take a vow of silence.
I would have burned the place down when I left, but the wood they sold me was soaking wet.
