Campgrounds from HE!! |
Comments: Campgrounds from he!!...Lake LaDonna
Well, that about says it all...besides the weather being so unbearably hot...when we got there, Lake LaDonna in Oregon, IL. we got our stuff all out of the cars and started to set up our 3 campsites and one of the girls(12years old) comes back and said how nasty the bathroom and showers were. Well, knowing kids, I went to look for myself. Well, they weren't just nasty they were down right disgusting. So, knowing that the whole weekend was going to be hot, and we would all be using the showers, I went to the camp store and asked if anyone was going to be out to work on the bathroom and the shower room. They were there within 30 minutes to clean everything up. Little did I know at that time that that would be the least of our problems.
About 10 minutes later a BN/Santa Fe train comes roaring thru the campsite, about 300 feet away from the edge of our tents is the tracks for this very active train line. 60-70 mph at least 100 cars or piggy backs, and every 20-30 minutes all night Friday night. We had no idea that the trains were that close or would run that often. The trains not only were fast and allot of them , the whistles or horns, you could hear from miles away, because the crossings are all ungated. They have to blow the horn so many feet before each one, well, Lake LaDonna has a crossing right out in front of the darn place, so...we heard the trains and the whistles all night and all morning. The only break we got from the trains, was Saturday afternoon for about 3 hours.
The lake was ok, smaller than High Tides, less toys in the water than HT, a nice sandy beach, they had a great halloween night for the kids on saturday with a costume contest and free ice cream for all the kids, a DJ for the monster mash dance.
Needless to say,
I AM NOT RECOMMENDING THIS PLACE TO ANYONE...
This place was recommended by someone at High Tides when we were there 3 weeks ago.
