Short Summary
Best campsite in Kauai
Comments:
Very nice county campground, good location on North Shore surrounded by multi million $$ homes. Permit needed at $3 per nite, rangers come by frequently to check permits (not every day/nite though). Can become crowded during certain weeks of summer months, as locals bring their families and set up large canopies, and bring their own porta potties, showers, barbeques, etc. Restrooms (three) are available, as are cold water showers and free electricity (bring extension cord). It is pretty quiet, off side road and quite a few acres. Parking directly off road, some street lights light up certain areas of lot. Beautiful beach, protected by offshore reef. Probably the safest campsite in Kauai, there is cell coverage (at least with Verizon) and I believe there is an pay phone in case of emergencies if no cell phone is available. Camping on grassy field or 'oceanfront' sites by beach on sandy ground. Frequently rains for relatively short periods of time at nite when I was there. Wind was not a major problem, however, a good water proof tent is necessary. Anini Road is patrolled by police at nite, at least during summer when there are a number of campers. Will definitely stay there again, in fact, during December, so I will update the review if necessary.
