| Short Summary |
adequate campground but not outstanding |
Comments: Smuggler's Den is on the RIGHT side of the island -- the "quiet side" away from tourist-crammed Bar Harbor. We loved our stay on Mt. Desert Island and highly recommend it as a vacation destination, The campground was adequate but lacked cable tv, and at our site we couldn't pick up satellite. The 50-amp sites are very narrow, so we had 2 neighboring camp fires which were way too close to our motor home. The staff is not friendly nor helpful. They weren't rude -- they just weren't friendly nor did they offer help. It is a good campground for location and accomodates our 40 foot motor home, so we will return. The town of Southwest Harbor is nearby, and it is delightful. Hiking is outstanding.
