remote, beautiful |
Comments: At $5 per site, this State park won't break the bank to camp. This is a very remote campground, and the road in can become inpassable during wet weather (seldom rains here), so take everything you'll need for your stay, including drinking water, when you go in. The campground provides water, restrooms with cold showers, picnic tables, some with shelters, and an endless beach. The beach streaches for some 13 miles, but a military base breaks it in the middle. At the campground, the beach is hidden behind huge sand dunes, very hot sands during the day, soft, so, don't drive on it unless you have 4 wheel drives with the special tires like the locals use, weckers are miles away, and cell phones won't work here. This is not a good swimming beach when the surf is high, and kids would find little to do, unless they enjoy playing in the sand. The web site listed with this campground is wrong, it is a state campground, not a Kauai Couny, http://www.hawaii.gov/dlnr/dsp/index.html is the right one.
